Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Element: Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times

Element: Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs

Element: Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions

Element: Inspect and prepare patterns and cores
  • Inspect patterns or cores for appropriate surface finish and set up on jointline or flat board to specification

Element: Select appropriate parting agent and apply to polymer specifications

Element: Manufacture moulds, patterns and tooling aids
  • Select appropriate polymer materials to specification

Element: Mix polymer and hardener to correct ratios and specifications using standard safety and operating procedures

Element: Apply polymer to specification and use predetermined methods, ensuring that air is not entrapped in application, excessive heat is not generated and delamination does not occur in final use

Element: Strip, inspect, clean and repair pattern/core box as required

Element: Machine and finish faces of polymer pattern to specifications

Element: Apply appropriate method of location to patterns and core boxes

Element: Check polymer tooling for conformance to specifications as required

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Surface finish includes one (1) or more of the following:

texture

gel coat

aluminium fill

Parting agent includes one (1) or more of the following:

wax

PVA

Polymer materials include one (1) or more of the following:

epoxy resins

urethane

Method of location includes one (1) or more of the following:

male and female joint

pin and bush

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Observation Checklist

Tasks to be observed according to workplace/college/TAFE policy and procedures, relevant legislation and Codes of Practice Yes No Comments/feedback
